Today I decided to make something quick and easy, just like the pattern says…I have yards and yards of this grey knit terry and to satisfy the quick and easy part I choose this Butterick B5524 tunic pattern. I chose view B, the one with what looks to me like a little cowl attached to the neckline. There’s nothing like sewing up something quick to refresh the sewing engine!
But as with any promise of being quick ….and….easy there’s always something that is going to slow down the flow and make a sewer think about how a particular technique is going to be executed. Take this pocket for example.
The directions tell you to stitch the center section and then topstitch the front but don’t catch in the pocket. Huh? I did not follow those instructions, instead I just folded over the seam allowance and topstitched, then pinned and basted the pocket outline ready to be topstitched and sew down in one step.
Most likely a little slower going but well worth the extra effort.
